No cook - Oil/dairy free Peanut Jaggery ladoos

The summer vacation is officially yet to begin but our minds are already in holiday mode, I'm making too many snacks now but no time to share them here. The toddler is always on the move and I extra arms and legs(even eyes) to watch over him. This recipe was shared to me by friend Vidya she's my guru to make indian sweets which I never wanted to venture because of the complex issues in them. But once I tried them home made is the best! And the best part - its got no cooking at all!!

Oats roasted gram/pottu kadala ladoos

We all love our sweets in this house from the DH to the lil JA everyone.Especially LM who takes her love for ladoos after her cartoon hero the great Chotta Bheem. These are healthy not only does it have the potu kadalai ofcourse which is said to be very good for kids but also I added oats yes disguising it to send the wonder grain inside.

We by mistake purchased the first pack of potu kadala ladoos from a shop and then all of us fell in love with it.When i checked for the recipes it was much easier than my first try at ladoos which was the besan ladoos which i found too tricky yes the roasting the besan part. But the outcome was nonetheless super good and vanished in a day.

When I tried these potu kadala ladoos they were easy peasy (i felt) so i tried sneaking in the oats in it too noone even knew it was in there and I was one happy mommy!

 You need

Potu kadala/roasted bengal gram or daalia 1 cup
Oats half cup
Powdered Sugar less than 3/4 th cup
Ghee 3 tablespoons
Milk half cup or more/less as needed
Cardamom powder 1 generous pinch
Cashews 6 nos broken into small pieces
Raisins/kismis 8-10

  • Heat a pan on a low flame to dry roast the oats.Be careful it burns really quick. This takes about 2-3 minutes.Allow to cool.
  • Take the potu kadala, oats and sugar in a blender and powder it smooth.
  • Take this powder and spread it out on a plate.
  • Heat the ghee in a pan, add the nuts and raisins to this once golden brown turn off the heat.
  • Add the powdered kadala, sugar and oats mix to this and turn on the heat to a medium low.
  • Keep stirring well until all the ghee has been absorbed and the mixture appears like a crumbly mixture.
  • Remove this mixture on to a plate and add enough milk little by little until you can shape the mixture to balls.
    • Grease your hands with butter or ghee and roll them out into ladoos.

Yummy healthy oats pottu kadala ladoos are ready.Since we have added milk and ghee they will stay good for only 2 days if they last longer please refrigerate them in an air tight container.

    Maaladoo/Pottu kadala ladoo/Roasted gram ladoos

Its festival time and holiday time in school so these lil tiny bite sized goodies are really needed to occupy the kids and their mouths!Last week we LM had model exams in school yea for 1st standard kids, and I chose to relax this last weekend because it felt like I went back to school!!

I had tried besan(chick pea flour) ladoos and thought the process especially the roasting the flour bit was too confusing.Well in this ladoo that process can be easily omitted and so i feel its good healthy and yummy :)

My daughter and everyone loved these and i know these are those go-to sweets in case of emergency.Did i tell you my LM loves ladoos because her fav cartoon guy the great Chotta Bheem loves them!Ahem..while i'm still wondering when Popeye the sailor can eat Spinach why can't our indian Bheem have something healthy.Ladoos are yummy especially these!

    Preparation Time: 20 minutes
    Makes about 20 ladoos(small size)
    Recipe source : Here

    You need

    Pottu kadala/roasted gram 1 and 1/2 cups
    Ghee half cup(or more) melted
Sugar powdered with 2-3 cardamoms only seeds needed
    Broken cashews nuts 3 tablespoons

    - Powder the gram in a mixer and sieve for any large bits.
    - In same mixer jar powder sugar with the cardamom pods and keep aside.
    - In a thick bottom pan, add the ghee, now add the nuts and fry till brown.Drain onto a plate.
    - In same ghee in the pan, add the ground gram/kadala powder and toast it until the mixture is a little course.Turn off the heat.
    - Add the powdered sugar and fried nuts.
    - Allow the mixture to cool a little and clump mix with both hands to form balls.Repeat for all the mixture.

    A brief pictorial :

    Notes :
    - The amount of ghee may vary depending on quality of dry ingredient.
    - My  ladoos had just enough ghee they did hold shape if you want you can add some more ghee to make them into balls.
    - Cardamom pods powder better with sugar. You can peel the cardamoms and use the peels in your tea.

Sending this to Foodabulous @ NIvedhanam and Preeti's page SImply Tadka

    Besan/Chick pea flour Ladoos

I have been away from the blogging world for a while.I miss blog hopping and visiting/commenting on blogs -  and i have a reason :) we welcomed a little boy into our little family last month.i am resting while i can with my mom and so unable to make posts forget about cooking anything! I would like to celebrate our new bundle of joy with a sweet recipe.

My LM has a new craving she loves ladoos taking after her fav cartoon character Chotta bheem. So i tried to make these besan/chick pea flour ladoos. Half way through the process i was wondering why i even started making this because it was the first time i was making any indian sweet and it was confusing when to stop roasting the flour.

But the efforts all paid off as the ladoos vanished in no time at all.

    You need

Chick pea flour/besan/kadala maav 1 cup
    Ghee 1/4 cup
    Almonds chopped 2 tablespoons
    Sugar powdered 3/4 cup
    Cardamom powder a pinch

    • Roast the chickpea flour in a pan until the raw smell goes away.
    • Melt the ghee and keep aside.
    • Once the flour has roasted, add the sugar, ghee, nuts and cardamom powder to this(do this while the flour is still hot)
    • Mix all of this and roll into small ladoos.

    • These ladoos stay well for a week in an airtight container.
Thanks to all my friends who keep coming to my blog and i will try to make a post every now and then when it is possible.Handling 2 kids is quite a handful.

Don't forget to check the blog for my first blog - event, the announcement has been scheduled to be posted on December.
