I saw this recipe long ago on TV.And since us southies have this special affinity to dosas and idlis, its kind of mandatory for my kid to have it too.She used to love dosas and run away when she heard the word idlis. So when I watched this recipe on TV i wanted to give it a try.You can call this a remake recipe...leftover idlis will never again see the bin!
And when I did try it.....yes..it was a big hit...especially with my lil girl.
.
Now its an apt lunch box idea too.
To make fried idlis you need
Idlis 2 nos
Mustard seeds 1tsp
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
Asoefetida/hing a pinch
Turmeric powder/haldi about a quarter tsp
Salt to taste
Oil/ghee 1 tablespoon
Curry leaves about a sprig or so
Coriander/Cilantro leaves a few to garnish

- Chop the idlis roughly into cubes.(leftover idlis from breakfast would be easier to chop than hot ones)
- In a heavy bottom pan, heat the oil/ghee, once it heats add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and asoefetida, then add the mustard powder.
- Add in the idlis(it will stick to the pan add more oil if you need). And stir in all the ingredients.
- Add salt to taste.
- Garnish with cilantro leaves.
In the lunch box :) |
