Paneer pops | Cottage cheese fritters

Friday's are fun days but ever since we had the rains in December there's been school every Saturday and its continuing through this month too. Usually I prefer to make home made snacks.

This recipe uses home made paneer. I'm using the blogger app and unable to figure out how to include the link here so pls do check out the blog how to basics tab to find to make home made paneer.

Preparation time : 15 mins

You need
Potato 1 small
Paneer/ cottage cheese 1/2cup grated
Ginger garlic paste 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves 2 tablespoon chopped finely
Lemon juice 1 tsp
Chili powder 1/4 tsp
Bread crumbs 1/2 cup
Oil to deep fry

- Boil and peel potato , grate paneer. In a bowl add the rest of the ingredients except oil and mix well. Check for salt.
- heat oil in a deep vessel. Shape the mixture into small balls or flat pellets as you like.
- fry the balls until golden brown and drain on kitchen towels.
- serve hot with tomato sauce.

Enjoy crispy healthy snacks that kids will love.

Vettu cake - tea time snack

Tea time is also after-school time these days though i prefer not to make deep fried snack all the time , it happens to be one of the most easy to feed things with kids. This snack is popular in our home town or rather the south of Tamil nadu and kerala too.It maybe known by other names in different regions.I just came to know it is called "mutta-koss"(means cabbage due to its appearance) from my neighbour who is from Tirunelveli. It is called vettu(cut) cake because of the cuts made on the top of the cake i guess.

Mango Froyo - frozen yogurt

Its mango season and its summer season too. This season unlike last year we had a lot of freshly plucked mangoes and so lesser tension eating them not having to think about the chemicals or pesticides. My kids love ice cream and in the greedy intention of making my son have some form of milk i tried this recipe which was yummy but he ran away seeing it.

Aam ka panna/Raw mango spiced juice

I have been on a long vacation this year because my daughter's new school has a longer leave than the previous one.I had so many pictures saved in drafts but couldn't post it because of the IE ditching me.This drink i made a few months back when I had green mangoes from an aunt's place to pickle. With the shifting and moving in i couldn't pickle them and few were turning ripe.So i decided to make this aam pana with i wanted to make for so long.
My kids loved it and wanted it from the remaining mangoes too.

Tapioca curry | Kappa curry - south indian style

Tapioca is a really yummy tuber. Its simply cooked and seasoned with mustard seeds in coconut oil in the south and it tastes heavenly. My DH used to tell me how the gujarati house he stayed in UK served him sabji style tapioca curry for chapathis.I have tried it but not too happy with my results i never repeated it.Last week i tried this curry and its just a modified version of our south indian curry but i found it much better.A good change to regular tapioca.

Achi murukku |Achappams |Rose cookies using rice flour

Rose cookies or achi appam as they are called in tamil nadu or achappams in kerala are definitely the sign of Christmas.I made them last week when mom was around she always makes them and it was really simple this time around as i used store brought rice flour.I had tried it with raw rice i felt it was a bit tedious.

Rasmalai - Valentines Day treat

Valentine's day or any day is never elaborately celebrated in our house hold. With a DH who doesn't believe in such worldly events but we know love has to be in the heart and not showcased. But i still do my part to celebrate such days which is from the kitchen! What more than a rich classic dessert to celebrate this year's love day!(btw Love has to be there through the year and not on one day right!)

Parupu vadai | Masala Chana dal vadai | Lentil fritters

Its really cold here in Chennai right now.I go to pick my daughter and feel like having my tea usually make some dosa or bread toasts for the hungry kid I'm surprised to see how she digs in when she gets back at times. While everyone is posting baking recipes for the season this might seem out of place. My laptop is broken and sicne my parents were visiting i had truck loads of stuff to get over with and didn't make sense making or baking anymore with us leaving shortly for our Xmas break. Also after a while today my keyboard is giving me an easy day to type else with my hero banging it up i had a tough time typing my posts i almost lost interest in writing anything.
