Oats roasted gram/pottu kadala ladoos

We all love our sweets in this house from the DH to the lil JA everyone.Especially LM who takes her love for ladoos after her cartoon hero the great Chotta Bheem. These are healthy not only does it have the potu kadalai ofcourse which is said to be very good for kids but also I added oats yes disguising it to send the wonder grain inside.

We by mistake purchased the first pack of potu kadala ladoos from a shop and then all of us fell in love with it.When i checked for the recipes it was much easier than my first try at ladoos which was the besan ladoos which i found too tricky yes the roasting the besan part. But the outcome was nonetheless super good and vanished in a day.

When I tried these potu kadala ladoos they were easy peasy (i felt) so i tried sneaking in the oats in it too noone even knew it was in there and I was one happy mommy!

 You need

Potu kadala/roasted bengal gram or daalia 1 cup
Oats half cup
Powdered Sugar less than 3/4 th cup
Ghee 3 tablespoons
Milk half cup or more/less as needed
Cardamom powder 1 generous pinch
Cashews 6 nos broken into small pieces
Raisins/kismis 8-10

  • Heat a pan on a low flame to dry roast the oats.Be careful it burns really quick. This takes about 2-3 minutes.Allow to cool.
  • Take the potu kadala, oats and sugar in a blender and powder it smooth.
  • Take this powder and spread it out on a plate.
  • Heat the ghee in a pan, add the nuts and raisins to this once golden brown turn off the heat.
  • Add the powdered kadala, sugar and oats mix to this and turn on the heat to a medium low.
  • Keep stirring well until all the ghee has been absorbed and the mixture appears like a crumbly mixture.
  • Remove this mixture on to a plate and add enough milk little by little until you can shape the mixture to balls.
    • Grease your hands with butter or ghee and roll them out into ladoos.

Yummy healthy oats pottu kadala ladoos are ready.Since we have added milk and ghee they will stay good for only 2 days if they last longer please refrigerate them in an air tight container.

Oats is the new healthy breakfast in all households. While we all know its healthy we also know its not all that easy to gulp down a mug of oats!!

This can be used as baby food too.My lil one hates oats so disguise it with fruits and other flavours so he can eat it atleast a bit!

    Strawberry Oats Smoothie/Shake

A friend recently requested me to post more baby friendly dishes as she finds it extremely hard to feed her child.Since I'm also on the same boat as her I did think i should post some easy healthy recipes but the same which kids can have and we feel relieved that we've done our parts well. You can do this with milk to make it a shake or with thick yogurt to make a lassi/smoothi choose your taste!

My elder one used to be an easy kid now i realise when i have comparison! My younger one is extremely choosy and picky and if i think of it the only proper meals he has is his lunch! Now every meal needs a lot of thought and effort to get him to eat it.

    Apple oats shake

How many of us love oats in all its true form?I can have it but yea but i know at the bottom of my heart i'm not a big fan of it i just gulp it down because its healthy. But my kids even the baby won't budge he'll seal his lips and no means no!So this is how i get it in!No jokes with mummy no ;)

Baby food version works too.I find it easy to push this through knowing it is healthy too.
I use the same method as given below but reduce the amount of milk just add about 2 tablespoons of milk and more of fruit puree.

    Preparation Time : 10 minutes
    Makes 2 glasses

    You need

    Apple 1 cored and cubed
    Lime juice 1 tsp
    Oats 3 tablespoons
    Honey/sugar to taste
    Water 1 cup
    Milk 1 cup

    • Cube the apples and mix the lime juice in a bowl of water and keep the apple submerged in the lime water. This prevents the apple from oxidising.
    • Puree the apple with a spoon of sugar in a blender keep aside.
    • Cook oats in a cup of water and allow to cool.
    • Add the cooled oats with the apple puree and blend it until smooth.
    • Add milk and blend once more until smooth.Add sugar/honey to this.
    • Serve chilled in glasses.

Enjoy healthy oats shakes for breakfast :)

    Healthy Veggie muffins for breakfast

Radhika of Tickling palates has once again come up with a bright idea 'I love baking'.I wanted to make some muffins but the sweet somethings are getting a bit too much these days, so while i was thinking of what to bake, i started looking online for savoury muffins.I'm a little dreaded with the yeast monster these days since it ditched me so no breads!

I whipped these muffins in about 10 minutes and they were on the way to the oven. They are eggless, healthy and as easy as a cupcake! You have to believe me this is one super duper breakfast in a cup! These are eggless so it was all the more easier to mix up and bake too!I tried a small quantity and didn't bother to use my muffin tray, i just greased some metal bowls and baked them.

Preparation Time:10 mins (mixing time) + 25 mins (baking time)
    Makes 10 mini muffins

    You need
    All purpose flour 1cup
    Oats+wheat flour 1/2 cup(i used a handful of each)
    Curd/yogurt 1cup
    Vegetable oil 1/3 cup
    Baking powder 1tsp
    Baking soda 1/2 tsp
Finely chopped vegetables (onions, tomatoes, capsicum) 1/2cup or more
    Chopped cilantro 2 tablespoons
    Salt to taste

    • Preheat oven to 250C and grease or line muffin tins and keep aside.
    • In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients and set aside. In another bowl, mix the yogurt and oil until well combined.
    • Add the vegetables to the yogurt and oil mix and stir well.
    • Combine the dry ingredients with the wet vegetable+curd mix.Mix well until the flour is well combined with the curd oil mixture.
    • Fill the greased/lined tin until 3/4th full.
    • Bake for about 45 minutes until the skewer comes out clean.

    • Soft and fluffy veggie muffins are ready for a healthy breakfast.
