Pepper Fish fry

We are on our holiday but i would like to keep sharing few recipes so I had prepared these two three posts but to get online and post it is also getting difficult with the kids running around haywire. This is a delicious south indian flavoured fish fry tasted super good.

I used small palm sized 'paarai' fish but any fish will do for this recipe.

You need

Fish (paarai/trevally) 4
Curry powder/coriander powder 1 tablespoon
Chilli powder 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Lime juice 1/2 tsp

To grind into a smooth paste

Cumin seeds/jeera 1 tsp
Pepper corns 1 tsp
Curry leaves 2 sprigs
Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp

Oil to shallow fry
Curry leaves with the stem

  • Clean the fish, since it is a small sized fish i chopped the heads off with kitchen shears and left the rest of the fish as it is, it is important to make gashes on the rest of the fish so the spices get into the flesh.
  • Mix the masala paste with the rest of the spices and make a thick marinade.
  • Apply this on the fish and leave to sit for half hour or more.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add the curry leaves with stem on the pan, add the marinated fish and let it turn brown on both sides.

Serve pepper fish fry hot with sambar, rasam and steamed rice.
